At exactly 11:00PM on June 17, 2021, residents in the area experienced something which seemed like an earthquake due to gas tanker explosion at Total Filling station, close to Sheraton Hotel and OPIC building, on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, Lagos state. (Read More Here).

According to a source, the cause of the explosion was from a leaking gas tanker at the Total Gas Station. The gas tanker was leaking during an offload at the filling station. 

According to the source, all the lodgers at Sheraton Hotel dashed out of their rooms as they seek safety in a protected and unaffected areas. 

Few minutes after the explosion and fire outbreak, firefighters arrived at the scene and saved the night by working tirelessly to quench the huge fire. 

A source tells Kossyderrickent:

"Apparently a leaking gas tanker exploded, caused a lot of alarm, potentially OPIC might be slightly affected, I can't see much from my standpoint, I also don't know if there are causalties. Stay safe everyone."
