A tax consultant, Adeleye Jokotoye, has submitted a "Change of name" proposal to the House of Representatives during South West Zonal Public Hearing in Lagos on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. (Read More Here).

According to him, he says the name "Nigeria" was imposed by the British Government and it's due for a change.

He says: "At this crossroads in our history, it is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new beginning which will be ushered in with a new constitution."

When asked why Nigeria should be changed to United African Republic, Jokotoye, says Nigeria has too many tribes or ethnic groups that need to be united.

He also said that the change of name has another alternative, which is: United Alkebulan Republic (meaning: United Mother of Mankind Republic).

After his statement went viral, Nigerians began to react by dropping hilarious statements on Twitter. A few Nigerians began to remind the Nigerian government that the change of name won't make the Chinese government forget its debt Nigeria owes its country.
